In 2015, the founder was involved in a serious work accident that resulted in a disc prolapse in the spine at three locations.
In 2017, doctors had to perform a minor operation to open up the nerve canal so that the discs would no longer press on the nerves.
Unfortunately, a few nerves were accidentally damaged during the procedure.
From 2017 to 2020, he went from being in a wheelchair to being able to walk short distances again—thanks to a lot of exercise and rehabilitation.
He always had a passion for motorsports. But after the accident, it became very difficult for to get in and out of low sports or racing cars. Facing reality, he sold most of his racecars and sports cars. It was time to find a vehicle that was higher and more practical.
In 2019, He bought a brand new, fully-specced VW Transporter with a 2.0 TDI BiTurbo engine and 4Motion. It allowed to bring a wheelchair in and was much easier to get in and out of.
He’d raced on many tracks in younger years and still has many friends in the motorsport world. One day, he visited some of them in Germany and drove there all the way in his Transporter.
With great help of motorsport friends, a car was created what has now become OnlyVan.
The Transporter was modified and made track-ready. That’s when he saw the opportunity to show others in similar situations that—with a few modifications—you can still have fun on a racetrack with a van. You can still drive a sporty vehicle, just in a different form.
The van now has even more modifications—but that’s another story.
The team (or mostly the owner) came up with the name OnlyVan, because it’s just a van— and he can only drive a van.
Now, he travels around trying to inspire others with disabilities and show them what’s possible.
To help financing this project, merchandise was created. He’d already given away some stickers, but now its time to take it to the next level.
Merchandise will help cover travel expenses and allow reaching more people.
The founder wants to show others with disabilities that you can drive a cool van—and even take it to the racetrack.
